“Momma! My egg is so pretty!!” My daughter beamed at the small egg she had colored earlier.
During my facebook live today, I showed how to blow out an egg and turn it into an ornament. I used my daughter’s egg to show how to thread string with a paperclip.
As she fingered the bead lovingly, and gazed satisfactorily at her colored egg ornament, I thought, “THIS is why I do it all.” She’s learning from a young age, just as I did, that art is FUN and rewarding.
Did you know I’m doing free lives EVERY weekday over on my page? I don’t know how long I’ll leave them up there, so go check them out.
Here’s what we’ve done so far: Op-art, watercolor leaves, zentangles, tape painting, Rock painting, flower doodles, values & shading, Mandalas, and quilled jewelry. Nature week: drawing flowers, and wateroloring trees, drawing rocks and painting clouds, as well as finding patterns around us for inspiration. This week we’ve moved into the house: Kitchen! We drew kitchen utensils, and turned them into patterns. We cleaned our kitchens together for 7 minutes, and then doodled and turned those doodles into sugar art. Every weekday at 11am EST I would love you to join us.
My daughter is an example to all of us as we create art:
-
We can be gloriously delighted with what we create. It doesn’t have to please anyone else. We can always find at least one good thing to say about it. The more art we make, the greater possibility we have to create something that sparks our soul.
-
Don’t overthink it. When she was coloring her egg, she had some color preferences, but she just forged ahead. Don’t overthink it. You don’t have to do it for show, or even share it with anyone. Don’t love it? Don’t worry. You’ll create again soon.
-
Now is the best time. Are you feeling anxious? Stressed? Overwhelmed? Although life can feel uncertain right now, it’s actually an IDEAL time to begin a habit of making time for creativity. Yesterday I was feeling completely overwhelmed and a little out of control emotionally. I haven’t been sleeping well either. Instead of pushing through, I took 5 minutes to work on a drawing on my ipad. I felt my shoulders loosen, my breathing slow, and my heartbeat calm.
Art is the best therapy.
Two ways you can start doing more art:
-
Come join me for my facebook lives (11am EST); it’s always more fun when friends are on! Some of you are also on my weekly Club calls, where we get to do art together face to face on zoom.
-
Join the Club!! I would love to have you join our creative art community of women. We meet over zoom every week, with replays. You get immediate feedback on your art, and a reason to create.
Here’s what we’re making right now:
I hope this week finds some joy and respite for you, my friend. Find a bit of sunshine and take a deep breath.
Hugs, Amber
p.s. If you want to know if the club would be right for you, jump on a no-pressure 15 minute call with me. Can’t wait to chat.
