What do you think about Birthdays?
When I was growing up, my grandmother celebrated my half-birthday by sending me a brand new book in the mail. Not only did it make me know that she loved me, but it made me feel like I had a secret special celebration. And we often traveled in the summer (my birthday month) so even though I didn’t get school birthday parties, some years I got 3 cakes.
We have all kinds of ways to celebrate life.
We have gender reveals, first birthday cake smashes, bridal and baby showers. We celebrate significant events like graduation and marriage.
When we’re little birthdays can mean life or death. And as we age, it’s not that important anymore. Perhaps we even dread them. We dread getting older, or not being remembered, or reflect on how different our life is from what we imagined a year ago.
But here’s the thing, friend.
A celebration of your birth day means you’re still here with us.
Your internal light still shines for us to receive.
We are glad you are still with us on the earth.
Sometimes when facebook notifies you of a dear friend’s birthday, you think, I wish I could have remembered this before now… it would have been really nice to have told them how much I appreciated them–besides writing on their wall.
Wouldn’t it be great if that was already done ahead of time, and all you had to do was pop it in the mail?
So I got to thinking… what if I taught my Club ladies watercolor while we made birthday cards. What if we made them each week, learning a new template every time in our LIVE art class, so that by the end of the month, we had everyone’s cards already made, addressed, and stamped??
So that’s what we are doing.
Sending custom-made love art in the mail
We’re making something to send to someone, so when they open it up, they’ll know there isn’t anything on the earth exactly what they’re holding in their hands right then. And it was made with love.
Today’s class was the first birthday card week. We had old and new faces. I love when people find out about the Club and they choose to make time for art with us. It’s a creative community, and we all just have fun and make beautiful things together. Even more importantly, I especially love when I mess up live while teaching. My watercolor palette dragged across a wet letter, so we went with it, and created something wonderful still.
Tuesday I did an extra live demo on facebook to give you a taste of the project. Go check it out!
How do YOU like to celebrate birthdays? Do you still like being remembered on your birthday?
Sending happy vibes your way, Amber
p.s. if you didn’t see my email before, go snag a free spot in the Creative U Healing Art Summit… my class will be live Feb 11-13. There are lots of new classes to check out for free while they’re live, so don’t wait too long!
p.p.s. Is it YOUR birthday anytime soon??
